Smilex (DJ - Electro, Techno)

As a resident DJ at his own night Robot Music, Smilex can be heard spinning glitchy, moody electronics as well as danceflor-destroying techno and electro. His sets at St. Acid's Bang Face are equally varied, spanning from blissful ambience to full-on hardcore.

History

Originally from Hertfordshire, Smilex began his DJing career in Nottingham after being inspired by the techno parties and clubs where he would regularly catch DJs like Dave Clarke, Surgeon, CJ Bollland as well as locals Cholly and Aled Jones.

Learning his skills primarily with Drum'n'Bass, his sound and technical ability progressed at an alarming rate. He promptly hooked up with the DELTA 9 crew and was soon playing at DELTA 9 parties and various other clubs, events and parties in Nottingham, Northampton, London, Southampton and Cardiff. His eclectic style meant he would play anything from downtempo dubby electronica and 80s hits in the back-rooms to hard, dark and experimental techno upfront. This led to many appearances at clubs such as The Bomb, Blueprint, The Lenton, Double Bubble and many cafes and bars in Nottingham, including the only student night in Nottingham to air the occasional gabber tune.
